Add to that she doesnt have the pessimism and sense of loss and trauma that the survivors have. A lot of societal expectations and norms just weren't forced on her, and the ones that are don't make sense to her. She has never really been to a school or had to deal with pre-pandemic authority structures. I have always had a bit of an anti-authority sentiment in my worldview, and never thought I would see a show and say "those kids need some structure, and role models! Law and order!", but I think that's what they're trying to show. My take on it halfway through the season is that this is how kids turn out without structured education, without positive role models, and without a large peer group to use to normalize their behaviors against. It's really jarring compared to how thoughtfully everything else is executed, it throws off the whole apparently intended reading of the Prophet, and it felt like very precious time stolen from characters who deserved it. None of her stuff makes any fucking sense and I think it was a really unfortunate mistake to pivot so much of the finale around her when she’s so grating to watch. She feels sad for the Rose story, but joins the guy who mass kidnaps kids. And then comes back, and doesn’t react, at all, to the fact Kirsten has gone on a suicide mission on her behalf. She says she loves Kirsten but never once does anything to show it, and rides her horse through (as far as she knows) an active minefield. She loves asking about phones and doing Karaoke, but she throws in her lot with the Luddite hive. She wants to stay at the airport, she wants to leave with the Undersea. I loved so much about the rest of the show I just don't understand what went wrong with the writing of that character in particular.
